About us:

The Non-Profit Consortium (NPC) previously known as The Non-Profit Partnership (NPP) was founded in 1998 through a partnership between the UK-based Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), the Southern African Grantmakers Association (SAGA), the South African Non-Governmental Organisations Coalition (SANGOCO) and Kagiso Trust. The NPP's purpose was to "strengthen the financial sustainability of the non-profit sector." It focused on promoting the financial sustainability of the non-profit sector by conducting research, advocacy and lobbying to broaden the tax benefits that non-profit organisations are entitled to.

The NPP developed the Income Tax Campaign, which had its origins in The Independent Study into an Enabling Environment for NGO's commissioned by the Development Resources Centre in 1992. This brought about major changes in the tax laws for NPOs. Through workshops and seminars, the NPP rose awareness about the tax concessions.

Following the success of The Tax Campaign (link to tax campaign which is on website already), it emerged that further reform to the legal framework for non-profits was necessary to ensure the sustainability of the non-profit sector. In 2003, The NPP was incorporated as a Section 21 company and began operating as an independent entity, now called the Non-Profit Consortium (NPC).
