Objectives

In order to fulfill its mission, which is to support democratic transformation by strengthen the financial sustainability of the non-profit sector, the Non Profit Consortium engages in the following programmes:

Enabling Legislative and Fiscal Monitoring Programme

The purpose of the programme is to strengthen the non-profit sector’s ability to:

• Challenge the structural causes of poverty;
• Continue to establish precedents on effective lobbying and communicate the benefits of these to the sector;
• Make statutory funding (the NDA and lottery) more accessible to NPOs;
• Create a more institutionalised parliamentary presence to represent the NGO sector’s interests in relation to legislation that impacts on financial sustainability;
• Create an enabling fiscal and legal environment for increasing revenue and reducing expenditure;
• Create incentives for company and private giving;
• Have access to review adverse decisions, including judicial review;
• Regulate the sector in a pro-active and non-adversarial manner

Financial Sustainability Training Programme

One of the key factors in an enabling environment is the financial sustainability of the organisation. In order to meet this need, the NPC’s Financial Sustainability Programme takes the organisation beyond just financial management, to look at broader issues, which affect the financial sustainability of a non-profit organisation.

The aim of the programme is to provide administrators, financial managers, fundraisers and other NGO and CBO officials with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to move their organisations towards financial sustainability.
