The Non Profit Organisations (NPO) Act

The Non Profit Organisations Act No. 71 of 1997 came into effect on the 1st September 1998, as a result of policy and legislative reform between government and civil society organisations.

The primary objectives of the NPO Act are:

• To contribute to the creation of an enabling environment in which non-profit organisations can flourish
• To establish an administrative and regulatory framework within which these organisations can conduct their affairs.
