The Tax Unit
The objective of NPP’s newly established Tax Unit is to facilitate an intense inspection of current taxation laws that impact on non-profit organizations as well as to research and lobby for a more beneficial application of these laws in respect of non-profit organizations.
The successes of the Non-Profit Partnership’s Income Tax Campaign thus far can be accredited to the thorough research that has gone into the legislation as well as to the intensive lobbying and training that ensued once the research was concluded. Great care was taken to avoid lobbying in a vacuum. Although the training that was conducted by the Non-Profit Partnership was used to disseminate information, it was also used to gather the relevant information that was of concern to the sector.
Information garnered at workshops has directed NPP in increasing the scope of its lobbying activities from taxation to include other pieces of legislation that impact on the financial sustainability of the NPO sector, as well as to intensify the existing Income Tax Campaign.
In order to achieve its objectives, the Tax Unit will look at the following:
In order to facilitate positive development
in the legislation, the Tax Unit will, by way of research, thoroughly investigate
the above-mentioned issues, and will lobby the numerous decision makers and
stakeholders. Naturally all changes and developments that are achieved will
be disseminated to the sector by way of workshops and seminars.
