The Institute for Democracy in South Africa (IDASA)
IDASA s mission is to promote a sustainable democracy by building democratic
institutions, educating citizens and advocating social justice. Programmes include
Political Monitoring Information Service, Budget Information Service, Public

National Development Agency (NDA)
The aim of the NDA is to contribute towards the eradication of poverty and its
causes by granting funds to civil society for the purposes of carrying out projects
or programmes aimed at meeting the development needs of the poor communities
and strengthening the institutional capacity of other civil society organisations
involved in direct service provision to poor communities. For more information,

NPO Directorate
The NPO Directorate, which is part of the Department of Welfare, is required
to keep and annually publish a register of all NPO's, which are registered,
deregistered, wound up and dissolved. To download the registration forms, the

NPO Legal Support Project, Legal Resources Centre
The Non Profit Organisations (NPO) Legal Support Project aims to promote good
governance and accountability within the non-profit sector by providing institutional
and legal support for the establishment and after care of non-profit organisations.

Provincial Parliamentary programme (PPP)
The PPP's programme purpose is to strengthen pulbic participation in governance.
This is achieved by, among other things, increasing NGO and CBO participation
in government processes, empowering civil society to hold government responsible
for delivery of accessible governance and lobbying for user-friendly government

Southern African Grantmakers Association (SAGA)
SAGA encourages a more effective and professional flow of donor support to poor
and marginalised communities. Members are corporates having social responsibilities
programmes, international donor organisations, local private foundations, grantmaking
non-governmental organisations and community foundations.
